Recently, during our visit to Harrogate for the Yorkshire Motorhome & Campervan Show, we had the one and only Peter Vaughan (editor of the well-known MMM campervan magazine) come and have a good look ‘round our new High Roof MWB...

As you may have seen, we recently launched the High Roof version of the MWB, and so we were very excited to have renowned expert Peter Vaughan come and have a look for himself!
Richard has worked with Peter a few times at different shows, and he’s quite a funny chap! He's very knowledgeable about the motorhome and campervan world as editor of The Motorhomers’ Magazine, of course! While he is a VW man, he seems to appreciate a nicely built campervan with attention to detail and quality. So let’s see what he thought of our new High Roof ‘van…

Our new Trouvaille Classique High Roof MWB campervan, has an identical layout as MWB option 2, but it’s the H2 version (Fiat Ducato 35 Series 2 - L2H2), so you can stand up. There’s an internal height of 6.3 feet, head clearance, so it works really well for tall people, yet still only 5.4 metres long and so medium wheel-base (MWB).
Richard drives an MWB as his daily drive; The new generation of these series two 'vans are a different breed and literally quieter and smoother.

Why this campervan stands out
For this new High Top version, it is 140 brake horse power as standard and the option of manual or automatic, with the new 8-speed automatic transmission (AT8).
We choose the highest specifications possible, which include the 10-inch touch screen with full satnav built-in and blind spot and lane assist.
The features and controls have been updated, and so if you’ve not driven these new ‘vans, we highly recommend coming for a test drive, as they’re quite different!
Extra wide step
It also has the extra-wide electric step, which auto-retracts when you start the engine. So there's no need to worry about forgetting whether you left a step out.
That gives you that extra confidence to step in and out at night time.
We’ve found that many other steps are too small, and especially when you've got big feet, you have to worry about how you step in and out.

Plenty of headroom
There’s really decent inside and it feels very spacious, with our big skylights making it feel light and airy.
More storage
By definition, with a higher roof, there’s more room for storage.
We make the most of every inch with top lockers around the top.
We think you can never have too much storage!

Six feet beds
At the front, there are four individual seats, which can be made into single beds stretching under the kitchen and the wardrobe, facing backwards.
The beauty of a six-foot bed is that you can use the RIB beds when folded down as back rests, which can recline and incline, and sit up in bed independently, a bit like a chaise lounge! Whereas if faced the other way, you only have the flat option.
This is how you can get extra bed length too if you need some more room. By angling the base of the seat very slightly (because there is a very small height difference between the front seats and the back seats), and putting a pillow across the base of the seat, you can gain an extra six to eight inches!
You can also, of course, slide the seats together to make a full-size double bed in the centre. And then you can still have your front chairs turned round and you can put your clothes on there at nighttime when you're getting undressed.

Suitable for the whole family
We have ISOFIX (metal attachments that connect to child car seats) on our seats as standard for added safety.
The material used on the chairs is an aqua clean material. This means you can easily wipe it clean. Even felt-tip pen marks can be wiped off!
You can also add the cab bunk system, a nifty solution which means you can have bunk beds in the cab.

Pop Top option for the High Roof
You can also still have a Pop Top included in the High Roof ‘van, so you keep your full internal headroom, but you've got that extra double bed upstairs.
You don’t lose any natural light as the main skylight can remain, it just lifts up with the roof, with a ladder to get up to the luxury double bed.
In the summer, it can be much more convenient to sleep up in the roof rather than set up the beds downstairs.
And if you have kids or teens, they often enjoy having their own space up out the way!
For a lower cost option, with younger children, the cab bunks are a great alternative to transform the use of your ‘van.

Kitchen area
At the back, in the kitchen, there are different options; you can choose from a microwave or an oven grill. We then also have the nice big three-ring Thetford Hob, which gives you three spacious full-size rings.
Thanks to the height of the ‘van, you have more storage and plenty of working room, so you won’t feel claustrophobic while cooking away. There’s counter space to work on and a good-sized sink - with an extendable hose, so you can even wash your hair in the sink!
There’s generous cupboard space, as well, with cupboards that open fully.

90 litre slimline fridge
We use the Vitrifrigo Slim 90 litre fridge positioned at eyelevel, creating more low level storage. We also use the 90 litre fridge in the Pop Top version.

This one, apart from being very stylish, has night mode. This means it winds down in the evening, and you can control the temperature.
It also has a really usable freezer compartment, which is completely sealed, so you won’t get any leakage.
Compact, but practical toilet
And then onto what is, for some people, the most important facility! Something you don't get in the smaller campervans, is the toilet compartment at the back.

With our bi-fold doors, you don’t have to squeeze past the doors, as they can slide out of the way. And if you’re parked on a slant, there’s a lock on the floor to keep anything from swinging.
The doors can shut across the back to give you some privacy, not only for using the facilities, but it can work great as a changing area as well!
The toilet itself is an electric flush, sit-down toilet. And there’s the optional extra of the new SOG system, which helps if you’re trying to use fewer chemicals. The SOG system pulls all the smells through a carbon filter, and so if you’re going off-grid, or free camping, or not staying on campsites, etc, you can empty the toilet straight into your mains toilet at home, because there's no chemicals in there.

Heating and hot water
We have several options, but as standard, our High Roof ‘van comes with gas blown air heating. We have a large fitted gas tank underneath, which can be filled up with LPG (there are no bottles in the ‘van).
The LPG tank is fillable on the same side as your diesel, alongside your BBQ point, so you can pull gas straight from your BBQ.
If you wish to upgrade to hot water, then you can go for the diesel Webasto option, and that does air and water combined. You can have instant hot water, and pull the water straight from the tank and heat it as you need it instantly, which is very useful.
You can control your heater speed, for example, you can put it on auto and just let it run, or you can turn it up and down, depending on how fast you want the fan to run. And the beauty of that is if you've got people traveling with you in winter, you can run the diesel heater while you’re driving. The air outlets are at the front and back of the ‘van, so it heats nice and evenly.
Use as your main vehicle
We also have a cab curtain option, so over winter, if you're using it more like a car, you can close the back area off, and just run the cab as you would your family car.
It’s very usable as your main vehicle, depending on how many miles you do in a day, but it's more than easy to drive.
It can go in supermarket car parks – it can fit into one parking space.
