THOUGHTS FROM THE WORKSHOP

A tour of our campervan workshop: Meet some of the Orange Family working on the 'vans!

Updated: Jan 28

Following on from our last workshop tour, we’re taking you behind the scenes once again – and this time, at the end, you’ll also meet some of the team!

Watch Richard show you ‘round the workshop…

Inside the workshop

First up, we have a customer’s T5 in. This is a Birchover VW 'van from Hillside and we've had a few of these in now.

We're now in the process of taking the pop top off and putting a high top on it.

You can see its raw state here, with some beautiful coloured cupboards inside. It will look as though it left the factory like that – it really does transform it!

A MWB in-build
A MWB in-build

We've got a few of the medium wheelbases in progress. As you can see, Andy's busy working away on one in-build.

And then we've got the new demonstrator, too, which is due to go into build.

So, if you're looking for a van ready to go, we've got the current demonstrator MWB up for sale.

Inside the new Micro Camper
Inside the new Micro Camper

We're just doing a show this weekend, so we've just rushed and got our new Micro Camper made in time, which is a beautiful little ‘van. It's had a lot of interest already, and these smaller vans always sell well.

The main advantage of these Micro Camper ‘vans is that they fit under any height barrier or multi-storey car park because it's under two meters. In fact, it drives like a car, so it's a great alternative to having a family car.

We've got a couple more ‘vans waiting to come in (another Vivaro), and we've even got a five-metre Classique, which we're building again for somebody.

We've also got a customer's van that's up for sale as they are upgradimg to the MWB Classique. That is a short wheelbase, a five-metre factory high-top Classique, which is quite rare!

Here’s a quick sneak preview of John working on another medium wheelbase over here. It is the very first high-roof medium wheelbase. As you can see, it's a beautiful colour scheme, and this customer has chosen an automatic.

So, if you fancy one of these high-roof MWB ‘vans, we've got 15 of them due in anytime soon, with five automatics available. They're a combination of the low roof, which you can have a popped up on, or the H2 version as well. We've got some H2 automatics that are only in the high roof.

And this is a little tease here - as you see, we've got the beautiful fly screens as an added extra on the door of this particular MWB ‘vans. So there's a lot of room and luxuries available for these ‘vans!

They really are gorgeous vans and we’ll be doing a full video on them very soon to show you the full finished L2H2 high roof ‘van.

In the corner here, we've got our new CNC.

Meet the Orange Family

So there’s our little workshop tour, but as you’ll all know, we’re a family here at Orange Campers so let’s have a quick chat with a few of the team to get to know them better.

Meet Marc, our new production manager! He's got his own campervan, and he loves campervanning.

I guess that's why you're in this trade, is it Marc?

“Yes, I love it. I don't think there's anything better than jumping in your ‘van on a Friday after work and going up to North Yorkshire for the weekend for nice long walks, fresh air, and charging your batteries.”

Marc's got a young family, and they have a small ‘van. We find that small can be better as you can get to more places. He came to us from Swift, who do bigger ‘vans, so it just shows that he’s got a small van! They can work better as a little family vehicle, can't they?

“You can park them anywhere; you can take them anywhere. It just gives you the freedom.”

Above, you can see Mar,c who went in his van to Corfe Castle in Dorset last summer.

“It’s an amazing part of our country to explore. We had a great family break.”

And then one of our fitters, Andy. Andy's an avid climber, as you can tell by his physique!

Andy's got his own ‘van - which he built himself before he joined us.

“We get out in it as much as we possibly can. It's great being in Sheffield, next to the picturesque areas.”

We've done a lot of vans for climber clients in the past. We've got a few big-name climbing people in Sheffield, and then some of us come and see us for their custom ‘van.

“The above photos are from our trips to North Wales and to the Yorkshire Dales last summer. The shot of us together is from when we got engaged in the Lake District. We were camping in the van, and the weather was brilliant.

I think we'll go away in the ‘van a bit when we have the baby, but probably not until the end of summer, just for a night or two in the Peak District to get away and have a change of scene.

If baby boy doesn't grow up to be the outdoorsy type, it would be a big surprise as I'm sure he'll do lots of camping and walking around the Highlands of Scotland and other parts of the UK. All done from the base of the van.”

Come and have a look around yourself

We hope you enjoyed reading this little behind-the-scenes account – we’re all very passionate about anything campervans here at Orange Campers!

You’re welcome to come and look around yourself at our workshop – just get in touch to arrange a tour.

While you’re here, why not book in a test drive too with one of our ‘vans.

If you can’t make it to our workshop in Rotherham, come see us at one of our shows in 2025 - check out the website for all the show dates.
